Hockensmith Student-Athlete of the Week

This week’s Hockensmith Student-Athlete of the Week is tennis’ Sarah Yost.  Yost, a junior from Manchester, Ky., was awarded the Mid-South Conference’s highest honor when she was honored as the conference’s Champion of Character Award recipient at the annual banquet last week.  Sarah also was selected as a First Team All-Conference singles player and Honorable Mention All-Conference doubles player for the year and is an Academic All-Conference honoree as well.  In conference play last week, including the conference tournament, Sarah went 3-1 in doubles play and was 2-2 in singles.

SA of the WeekThis week’s Hockensmith Student-Athletes of the week are outdoor track and field’s John Michael Mayo and Derek Sword. The duo won first and second place, respectively in the javelin competition at the University of the Cumberlands’ Spring Invitational last weekend. Mayo, a freshman biology major, and Sword, a senior athletic training major, are both graduates of Pikeville High and are both on track to qualify as individuals in the NAIA National Championships to be held next month in St. Louis, Mo.

SA of the WeekThis week’s Hockensmith Student-Athlete of the week is baseball’s Ryan Anderson. The  junior pitcher has been named the Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row after tallying an ERA of 1.62 in two wins, including a win over NCAA Division I Eastern Kentucky University.  In 11 innings, the Alexandria, Ky. native gave up seven hits and just two runs while striking out ten batters.

FrillingThis week’s Hockensmith Student-Athlete of the week is baseball’s Jason Frilling. The Tiger junior was 9 of 16 from the plate in Georgetown’s big week in which the Tigers went 7-0.  Jason .563 hitting on the week tallied a triple, five RBIs and six runs.  The catcher from Walton, Ky. also threw out two baserunners in the important wins against No. 6 Trevecca Nazarene.

RenfroThis week’s Hockensmith Student-Athlete of the week is softball’s Kara Renfro. The Tiger senior outfielder’s honor ends a special week in Tiger Softball history, as the team received its first-ever national ranking on Wednesday, entering the weekly coaches' poll at No. 20.

A senior from Paint Lick, Kentucky, Renfro batted .586 during a 7-1 week for the Tigers. She finished the week with three homeruns and an impressive 21 RBI's and ten runs scored. Renfro was also a perfect 7 of 7 in stolen bases. Defensively, she was just as outstanding, committing no errors in Georgetown's eight games on the week. For her accomplishments, she was also named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week.

TarpleeThis week’s Hockensmith Student-Athlete of the week is Jennifer Tarplee. The Tiger senior was selected after hitting .538 on the week and scoring seven runs in the Tigers’ five victories. The Cincinnati native also tallied seven stolen bases and is on target to finish her collegiate career in the NAIA record book. Jennifer is an outstanding student who excels in the classroom and on the field.

This week’s Hockensmith Student-Athletes of the week are the Georgetown College Basketball and Cheerleading teams. Each Tiger team won Mid-South Conference titles at the championships in Pikeville, Ky. held March 7-10. The women’s basketball team defeated Pikeville College, the University of the Cumberlands and Lindsey Wilson College to earn the crown while the men’s basketball team defeated Pikeville and Cumberlands for the championship. Senior cheerleader Lyndsey Penland was named the MSC Cheerleader of the Year and basketball’s Gus Chase was named the MSC Player of the Year. Head Coach Happy Osborne was honored as Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.

Student Athltete of the Week: IngleThis week’s Hockensmith Student-Athlete of the week is basketball’s Kim Ingle. The education senior from Beavercreek, Oh. was selected after a big performance last week, in which she scored 58 points, including a career-high 35 at Lindsey Wilson on Saturday. Kim added ten rebounds, eight assists and eight steals in Georgetown’s two big wins to finish the regular season at 20-9. For her efforts, she has also been named the MSC Player of the Week.

Student Athlete of the WeekThis week’s Hockensmith Student-Athlete of the week is basketball’s Donnovan Brown. The business management senior from Dayton, Oh. was selected after a big performance last week versus conference rival Cumberlands. Donnovan scored 12 points in just 23 minutes and added three rebounds, two assists and a steal. The 80-68 win continued the Tigers’ perfect season at 28-0.

SA of the WeekThis week’s Hockensmith Student-Athlete of the week is basketball’s David Graham. The accounting junior from Warner Robbins, Ga. was selected after a big performance last week at conference rival Campbellsville. David shot an outstanding 80% (eight of ten) while scoring 23 points and adding three rebounds, two assists and two steals. The 80-68 win continued the Tigers’ perfect season at 26-0.
