Men's Soccer - Wed, Apr. 6, 2016

Sunday's tripleheader soccer action took on a new significance recently when Georgetown College men's soccer coach Derek Willis decided to take an opportunity to help a fellow Tiger. Usually these play dates are times to see different opponents and test the skills worked on during the offseason.

However, when Willis learned that cross country and track and field runner Jacob Hanser's family lost their home this past Friday, his heart went out.

All of Hanser's family safely escaped the early evening fire in Falmouth, Ky., but the damage was devastating as winds made it difficult for fire crews to combat.

Georgetown College men's soccer team knew it had a tall task in front of it against perennial powerhouse Lindsey Wilson College in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference tournament.

The Tigers (5-12) won two league games this year to put themselves ahead of Shawnee State University and University of Pikeville. However, a good season for Campbellsville University and Cumberland University left typical top dog LWC to finish third in the standings. Of those three, GC did fare best against the No. 20 Blue Raiders in regular season.

The Mid-South Conference is preparing for postseason men's soccer action, starting today at 1 pm EST. Helping kickoff and cap another year in league play was a banquet Wednesday evening.

Georgetown College had nine representatives on the MSC All-Academic list and two of the top 34 players for the season.

In order to be recognized for scholastic achievement on the conference level, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.25 grade point average and be a sophomore or higher.

"I'm really proud of the guys for earning their academic all-conference honors, to have a third o fthe team make it this year shows the dedication the guys have to their academics," said GC coach Derek Willis.

Georgetown College men's soccer team enters postseason on a positive swing. The Tigers (5-11) have gotten a bit healthier down the final stretch of the season and went 3-3 over the past three weeks, including a 2-1 final week.

"Really excited about our trip to Bowling Green," said GC coach Derek Willis. "After lots of injuries throughout the season, we are mostly healthy with only Lucas Wiman unable to recover like we hoped."

GC finished as the sixth team in the packed Mid-South Conference standings with decisive wins over University of Pikeville and Shawnee State University. The team draws No. 21 Lindsey Wilson College for a 3:30 pm EST game at Lovers Lane Soccer Complex to open the 2015 tournament in Bowling Green, Ky.

Men's Soccer - Fri, Oct. 30, 2015

Georgetown College men's soccer ended regular season play with a strong road win, sending them into postseason play on a high note.

The Tigers (5-10) scored a goal in each half for a 2-0 win against Asbury University (5-11) in Wilmore, Ky.

Aaron Stover got it all started and then Trent Boyd capped off the night with a cushion goal.

"This was a terrific performance from our guys tonight," said GC coach Derek Willis. "We really pushed the tempo in the first half with a great goal by Stover off the cross from (Nick) Gregory. We weathered the some pressure in the second half until Boyd scored a great goal after being sent up from (JT) Stephens."
