Cheerleading - Thu, Mar. 2, 2017

All the routines were done, the scores tabulated and the tension built. Six teams competed for the 2017 Mid-South Conference Cheerleading title Wednesday evening at the Frankfort Convention Center. Georgetown College had finished third or fourth the past seven seasons, winning the crown in 2008. Behind innovated pyramids and new stunts the Tigers, under first-year coach Joanie Alexander, finished second narrowly behind champion Lindsey Wilson College. While the big team prize was just out of grasp, GC did walk away with Cheerleader of the Year – Macey Mckenzie; Coach of the Year – Alexander; and the mixed stunt group title – Mckenzie, Jerryn Jones, Shelby Douthett and Christian Ryne.

Mckenzie and Becca Slagle were first-team all-conference, while Breanna Ragland and Rachel Rouse were second-team all-conference.

Georgetown College cheerleaders have one of the longest collegiate athlete seasons, starting in August and culminating at the end of basketball season in mid-March. Over that period of time the team helps support our football and men's and women's basketball teams, while prepping the entire time for Wednesday's 8 pm Mid-South Conference championship in Frankfort.

Part of this wrap up to their season includes postseason honors. Rolling out first Tuesday morning was the MSC All-Academic. Of the 43 conference cheerleaders recognized, Georgetown had seven.
