Tigers Go 1-2 on Opening Weekend at Tennessee Wesleyan

ATHENS, Tenn. – The Georgetown College baseball team (1-2) opened its 2026 campaign at Tennessee Wesleyan University on Friday and Saturday.

Georgetown took down Blue Mountain Christian (0-1) in the opener, 8-5, and then finished off the Friday doubleheader with an 18-0 loss to Tennessee Wesleyan (6-0).

On Saturday, Georgetown fell 9-6 to Blue Mountain Christian (1-3).

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE      
Georgetown plated three runs in the top of the first to set the tone early. All with two outs, Elijah Verge started the scoring with his single to right field. After Davis Johnson was hit by the pitch, Nathan Odaira followed with a two-run single to left field to make it 3-0 Tigers. Despite allowing a run in the bottom of the frame, Georgetown got it back in the second. Diondre Jacob connected with a ball to right field to make it 4-1. The Toppers scored in the bottom of the third off a double to left field before Jacob made his way back to the plate and singled in another run in the fourth. BMC scored in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to tie the game at 5-5. After quiet seventh and eighth innings, Georgetown secured the win in a three-run ninth. A wild pitch broke the tie, and Sam Turilli gave the Tigers two more insurance runs with his single to right.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE      
Sam Turilli went 3-6 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Diondre Jacob was 3-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Nathan Odaira also had two RBIs and went 1-4.
Ashton Deskins (1-0) was the pitcher of record as he tossed the eighth and ninth innings. He allowed just one hit and struck out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO     
Playing in their first true road game of the season, the Tigers fell into a 2-0 hole after the first when an RBI groundout and a wild pitch plated two runs for TWU. The bottom of the third was even unfriendlier. Seven runs touched home for the Bulldogs. TWU added five more runs in the fourth, three more in the fifth, and one final run in the sixth.  Georgetown went down in order in the top of the seventh, and the game was ended via run rule.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO      
Sam Turilli was 1-1 with a walk.
Brody Mangis went 1-1.
* Sell McLeod was 1-2.
Manny Meilan (0-1) took the loss, going three innings and allowing six earned runs and four hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME THREE     
Georgetown fell into a 3-0 hole after the first inning, behind a pair of RBI singles and an RBI double, and faced an uphill battle from there. In the fourth, the Tigers tied things at 3-3 behind consecutive scoring plays. Diondre Jacob smacked home a run, and then Davis Johnson brought in two more with a double to right field. BMC added two in the fifth and one more in the sixth before Georgetown touched home again. In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers scored their final three runs of the day. A pair of balls sent to the left in the seventh plated two more for BMC, who also added a final insurance run in the ninth for the 9-6 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME THREE      
Davis Johnson was 2-4 with two RBIs and two walks.
Oakland Flodell went 1-4 with two RBIs and a walk.
Nathan Odaira was 1-4 with two runs scored and a walk.
Nathan Beaven (0-1) took the loss, going 1.2 innings of relief. He allowed three runs and three hits.

Weather permitting, the Tigers host Spring Arbor (0-0) for their opening series at home on February 13-14 at Robert. N Wilson Field.
