Tigers Take Series Opener off (RV) Lions in First MSC Series

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Georgetown College baseball team (8-14, 1-2 MSC) opened Mid-South Conference play against (RV) Freed-Hardeman University (16-6, 2-1 MSC) on Friday and Saturday at Five Wells Field.

On Friday, the Tigers took down the Lions 6-5 before FHU closed the day with a 3-0 win in game two.

On Saturday, Freed-Hardeman took the series with a 10-1 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE      
After the Tigers were retired in order in the first, the Lions used a one-out solo home run to take their first lead of the game. Davis Johnson's RBI single in the third tied things up before a sacrifice fly by Freed-Hardeman in the bottom half of the inning pushed FHU ahead. Henry Cruz smacked a two-run single in the fourth, followed by Hunter Hampton's two-run blast to left field, which capped the Tigers' four-run inning. Despite FHU getting three runs back in the bottom of the fourth, Brody Magnis doubled in the fifth to bring in the game-winning run, 6-5.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE      
Brody Mangis went 2-2 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored.
Henry Cruz was 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Hunter Hampton went 1-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.
* Ashton Deskin (3-1) picked up the win in relief, tossing 3.2 innings. He gave up just three hits and struck out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO     
Scoring was at a premium in game two as what became the game-winning run touched home in the fifth. A two-out single up the middle plated a run for the Lions before a solo home run in the sixth doubled the hosts' lead. A wild pitch helped the final run score in the eighth. FHU shut down the Tigers in the ninth for the 3-0 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO      
Henry Cruz was 2-4.
Brody Mangis went 1-3 with a walk.
Davis Johnson was 1-3 with a walk.
Chris Lenocker (1-4) took the loss, tossing 5.1 innings, allowing two runs off six hits while striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME THREE     
Georgetown's only run of the game three came in the top of the first. Luis Romero singled through the left side to bring in Davis Johnson. FHU's 10 runs were scattered through four separate frames. The Lions plated four in the bottom of the first behind a pair of doubles and a groundout. A two-run homer in the third made it a 6-1 game before the Lions added three more runs in the seventh. An RBI single in the eighth closed the scoring for FHU, who took the series finale, 10-1.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME THREE      
Luis Romero was 1-3 with an RBI.
Davis Johnson went 1-4 with a run scored.
Henry Cruz was 1-4.
Alec Krogel (1-2) took the loss, going 3.0 innings, allowing six runs off four hits while striking out three.
