Tigers Split with (RV) Mighty Oaks

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College baseball team (9-31, 1-14 MSC) split with (RV) Oakland City University (32-11, 15-6 RSC) at Robert N. Wilson Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mighty Oaks took down the Tigers  3-1 in the opener before Georgetown claimed game two, 4-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE      
Back-to-back first pitch singles started the game, and a sacrifice fly to center plated the opening run of the day for the Mighty Oaks. In the third, another sacrifice fly made it 2-0 Oakland City as Georgetown had just one hit through three innings. Diondre Jacob got the Tigers on the board in the fourth with a groundout RBI, the lone RBI of the game for Georgetown. A solo shot to left field rounded out the game for the Mighty Oaks, who went on to win the opener, 3-1.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE      
Davis Johnson went 1-3 with a run scored.
Sam Turilli was 1-3.
Diondre Jacob went 0-3 with an RBI.
Sam Turilli (1-4) took the loss, going all seven innings and striking out four. He surrendered three runs off six hits and walked one.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO     
The Mighty Oaks put up two runs in the top of the first in game two. A one-out double preceded a single through the right side, which scored two. The Tigers answered back with a pair of runs in the third when a pair of walks and a bunt single loaded the bases. Diondre Jacob flew out to left to bring in one run before a Brody Mangis single through the left side tied the game at 2-2. Georgetown pushed ahead in the fourth when a two-out wild pitch helped Joshua Hamilton home. The Tigers added an insurance run in the fifth when a throwing error by the third baseman allowed another run to score. A lead-off single by the Mighty Oaks in the sixth made it a one-run game when a sacrifice fly brought in the runner. In the top of the seventh, a lead-off walk set the stage for a sacrifice bunt to advance the tying run into scoring position. A stolen base by the Mighty Oaks put the tying run 90 feet away before a crucial strikeout brought it down to the final out. Another punch out granted the Tigers the win, 4-3.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO      
Julien Mendoza was 1-2 with a walk.
Brody Mangis went 1-3 with an RBI.
Sam Zeller was 1-3.
Nathan Beaven (1-5) picked up the win, tossing 4.1 innings of relief ball, allowing one run off four hits while striking out three.

UP NEXT   
The Tigers take on Campbellsville University (24-15, 4-5 MSC) on Friday, April 17, to begin a three-game series.

First pitch with Campbellsville is set for 6:00 p.m. at Robert N. Wilson Field on Friday night.
