Blue Raiders Finish off Sweep of Tigers

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College baseball team (8-30, 1-14 MSC) was swept by Lindsey Wilson University (17-22, 7-8 MSC) at Robert N. Wilson Field on Friday and Saturday.

Lindsey Wilson won the opening game 8-4 on Friday.

On Saturday, the Blue Raiders won game two 9-2, before Lindsey Wilson closed the series with a 7-4 win in the finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE      
With two gone in the top of the first, the Blue Raiders put four past home. A three-run double to left followed by an RBI single to right field and it was 4-0 LWU after a half inning. Georgetown got runs back in the first and second off an RBI single and a solo home run, respectively. Lindsey Wilson tacked on two more runs in the third behind another single. Elijah Verge sent a ball to the outfield in the fourth to bring in another run as it was a 6-3 game through four innings. Lindsey Wilson received RBI doubles in both the fifth and the sixth to push it to an 8-3 game before the Tigers plated the final run of the day in the bottom of the sixth off a double-play ball. The seventh, eighth and ninth featured a collective three hits as the Blue Raiders took the opener 8-4.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE      
Elijah Verge went 3-5 with an RBI.
Luis Romero was 3-5 with an RBI.
Hunter Hampton went 2-4.
Nathan Beaven (0-5) took the loss, going 0.2 innings. He surrendered four runs off two hits and walked one.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO     
Neither side managed a base hit in the opening two innings of game two before the Blue Raiders cracked through in the third. A lead-off double followed a run-scoring single to give the visitors the lead. LWU added six in the fourth and two more in the sixth before Georgetown managed any offense. Davis Johnson sent a ball to left center to score a run before Sam Turilli connected on a ball to center field to make it a 9-2 game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO      
Davis Johnson was 3-3 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored.
Elijah Verge went 2-4 with a run scored.
Sam Turilli was 1-4 with an RBI.
Alec Krogel (1-5) took the loss, tossing 4.0 innings, allowing seven runs off seven hits while striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME THREE     
A one-out single to left started the scoring for the Blue Raiders in the first. LWU took a 2-0 lead off another single in the first before Georgetown sliced the deficit in half with an RBI single of its own off the bat of Luis Romero. Another single in the second plated another run for the Blue Raiders before the Tigers put up a three-spot in the home half of the inning. A sacrifice fly tied things at 4-4 in the fourth before the difference came in the sixth. A three-run bomb from the Blue Raiders settled things as Lindsey Wilson went on to win, 7-4.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME THREE      
Davis Johnson was 3-5 with an RBI.
Luis Romero went 2-5 with an RBI.
Oakland Flodell was 2-5 with a run scored.
Chris Lenocker (1-8) took the loss, tossing 5.2 innings, allowing six runs off 11 hits while striking out three.
