Shawnee State Escapes in Ninth to beat Tigers

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Georgetown College baseball team (8-27, 1-11 MSC) dropped a non-conference game at Shawnee State University (22-12, 11-7 RSC) on Tuesday at Branch Rickey Park.

The Bears won 11-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgetown scored three runs in both the first and second innings highlighted by a Sam Turilli two-run shot to center field to give the Tigers a 6-5 lead through two innings. Shawnee State pushed ahead in the third with a two-run single to right before two scoreless innings settled the game down. In the sixth, Georgetown collected its third three-run frame of the day when a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly plated runs before the Bears got two back in the home half of the inning, making it a 9-9 game through six complete. Two more scoreless innings prevailed before the ninth featured the final offense of the day. Davis Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to right for the go-ahead run but the Bears walked it off in the bottom of the ninth behind an RBI single through the right side for the 11-10 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Elijah Verge went 3-6 with an RBI, two walks and two runs scored.
Diondre Jacob was 2-3 with two RBIs, a walk, and a run scored.
Sam Turilli went 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Chris Lenocker (1-7) took the loss, going the final 3.1 innings. He surrendered two runs and struck out one, allowing two hits.

The Tigers return home to host Lindsey Wilson University (14-22, 4-8 MSC) for a three-game series beginning on Friday, April 10.
