Tigers Fall to Wildcats in 10 innings at Mid-South Conference Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It took two days, but the Georgetown College baseball team (16-33, 4-14 MSC) fell in the opening game of the Mid-South Conference tournament against Bethel University (12-28, 5-13 MSC) at Bowling Green Park, finishing up on Wednesday morning.

Bethel beat Georgetown, 4-3 in 10 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Elijah Verge led the tournament off with a double, and after Davis Johnson grounded out and moved Verge to third, Diondre Jacob singled in Verge to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead. Verge scored the Tigers' second run in the third. He once again led the inning off and got on base via a walk. From there, he stole second and ended up earning two more bases via errors, making it a 2-0 game. Despite five hits through the opening four innings, the Wildcats first touched home in the bottom of the fifth. A pair of run-scoring singles pushed things to a 3-2 game. That score held until the top of the seventh when the game was delayed until Wednesday due to inclement weather.

On Wednesday, the Tigers tied the game up at 3-3 off a Diondre Jacob groundout. Bethel got base hits in both the seventh and eighth but needed extra innings to decide this one. The Tigers were retired via three strikeouts in the 10th before the Wildcats walked off the game with a double down the right field line to win, 4-3.
