Ohmer leads rout of Cumberlands
Jake Ohmer scored 19 points, leading Georgetown to a 90-70 win at Cumberlands, marking the 20th win of the year for the Tigers. It also marks the 3rd time in the last 4 games the team has scored at least 90 points. The Tigers defense also did a number on the Patriots, limiting them to just 34% shooting overall, and just 29% from beyond the arc.
Drew LaMont knocked down a 3-pointer 30 seconds into the game, setting the tone early. Cumberlands would never lead in the game. The Patriots would tie the game at 3, but Georgetown answered with an 11-0 run over the next 3:11. Jake Ohmer would hit 2 free throws to put the Tigers up 16-5 with 14:50 left in the 1st half. From then on, the Tigers would lead by double digits the rest of the game, but they weren't finished building the lead. With a 20-10 lead and just over 13 minutes left in the first half, the Tigers would go on a 10-0 run over another 3 minute stretch, taking a 20-point lead midway through the half. Cumberlands scored 6 straight to get within 30-16, but Jake Ohmer then scored 7 straight to keep the Patriots a safe distance away. Tommy Thomas buried a 3 and Georgetown led 40-19, with 5:42 to go in the 1st half. Georgetown would eventually take a 52-38 lead into halftime. In the half, the Tigers shot 56% from the field, 6-9 from 3, and 10-11 at the foul line.
Cumberlands hit a quick 3 to start the 2nd half to get within 11 at 52-41. Georgetown would have none of a Patriots rally. The Tigers held the Patriots scoreless over another 4 minute stretch and adding 8 to its own tally, to reassume a 19-point lead with just over 16 minutes to go, forcing a Patriots full timeout. The teams would trade buckets for much of the remainder of the game as Cumberlands never got within 15 points again.
In addition to 19 from Ohmer, Kyran Jones came off the bench and added 13 points with 9 rebounds. Cam Brooks-Harris finished with 12 points and 2 blocks. Every Tiger who played at least 5 minutes got into the scoring column, 10 in total.
The win, combined with a Freed-Hardeman loss, puts Georgetown back in sole possession of 1st place in the Mid-South Conference with 4 games to go in the regular season. The Tigers will look to take the next step towards a regular season title on Thursday night against Tennessee Southern. Tipoff is set for 7:30pm.
