No. 3 Tigers Pick up Home Win over Morris
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 3 Georgetown College men's basketball team (3-2) picked up its first home win 86-39 of the year over Morris College (2-2), in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Rashad Bishop set the tone with the opening dunk of the game for Georgetown who cruised to victory. After the Hornets tied the game at 2-2, both sides went into a scoring drought of two and a half minutes. Isaiah Mason then made his first bucket of the night to get things rolling for Georgetown. Morris opened its largest lead of the night behind a layup at the 14:29 mark but it was all Tigers from there. Scotty Browning hit a 3-pointer to pull it back within one and Chance Dillingham's pair of foul shots gave Georgetown back the lead for good with 10:45 to play. Down the stretch of the first half, Zion Harmon collected eight of his 13 points to help the Tigers to a 39-17 lead at the break.
The second half started just as the first for Georgetown, with a Rashad Bishop dunk. Georgetown continued to play through the Hornets zone defense making seven 3-pointers to stretch the advantage to as many 49 with just under three minutes to play. Bubba Leavell scored all 13 of his points in the second half behind four 3-pointers to fuel the Tigers to the 86-39 victory.
THE TEAM
Georgetown shot 47.8% from the field. The Tigers were 8-33 (24.2%) from deep and shot 14-24 (58.3%) at the free-throw line. GC won the rebounding battle, 40-37, while the Tigers also held the assists advantage, 18-3. The Tigers held the edge in steals, 13-4.
THE PLAYERS
* Bubba Leavell scored a team-high 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and from distance.
* Zion Harmon also added 13 points with three steals and two assists.
* Rashad Bishop had 12 points and three rebounds.
