No. 17 Tigers Fend Off Knights in Win
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 17 Georgetown College men's basketball team (4-2) knocked off Kentucky Christian University (0-5), 83-73 in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
On a night that the Tigers shot 50% from the field, things were clicking early for Georgetown. Scotty Browning had 10 of his team-high 16 points all within the first five minutes, helping the Tigers to a 20-10 advantage at the first media timeout. The next five minutes brought a slower pace and a handful of turnovers and missed shots as Georgetown took a 27-16 lead with just over 10 minutes to play in the half. After some clutch shooting from 3-point range, Georgetown ballooned its advantage to as much as 17 after Chance Dillingham hit from distance to make it 38-21. Bubba Leavell connected for a pair of treys, and Rashad Bishop sank two foul shots down the stretch to give Georgetown a 51-35 lead at halftime.
Browning started the scoring in the second half for Georgetown as the Tigers hit their first three shots in the half. After Aden Nyekan's jumper at the 13:38 mark, both sides went silent from the field for the next two plus minutes. The Tigers' lead was stretched to 20 at 70-50 with 7:32 to play when the Knights made a run. KCU pulled within 15 with a jumper with just under six to play before buckets by both Isaiah Mason and Darien Lewis provided some cushion. Mason's tip-in layup with 3:34 gave Georgetown its largest lead of the night of 23. From there, though, the offense stalled as the final 13 points went to KCU. Georgetown prevailed 83-73 despite the late Knights' run.
