No. 13 Tigers Fall in OT to Shawnee State

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The No. 13 Georgetown College men's basketball team (9-3) fell 84-76 in overtime to Shawnee State (6-3) to close "The Show" in the Meadowview Resort on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The offense flowed through Isaiah Mason early and often in this one, as the senior scored the opening seven points for Georgetown. The first 10 minutes saw Rashad Bishop sink three foul shots as the Tigers trailed 14-10 at the media timeout halfway through. Julius Edmonds' season-high 19-point night started with a couple of foul shots made at the 6:59 mark. Georgetown trailed 32-24 at the break, led by 10 points from Mason.

The opening stages of the second half were not friendly to the Tigers as they sank into a further hole, trailing by nine with just over five minutes played in the half. In fact, at the 13:54 mark, the Bears commanded their largest lead of the evening at 44-31. Some very sharp shooting by Georgetown from range quickly pulled the Tigers back within striking distance, though. With Darien Lewis' layup at the 7:22 mark, it was back to a one-point game (52-51). Trailing 66-61 with under a minute to play, Scotty Browning hit a layup, and then Bubba Leavell sank a 3-pointer to tie things at 66-66. Shawnee State's game-winner rimmed out with a second to play to force overtime.

Shawnee State scored the opening eight points in the free period as the Tigers needed nearly half of the period to find the bottom of the net. The Bears were an efficient 7-of-12 from the field in overtime and hung on for the 84-76 win.

THE TEAM
Georgetown shot 42.2% from the field. The Tigers were 9-23 (39.1%) from deep and shot 13-20 (65.0%) at the free-throw line. SSU won the rebounding battle 48-35, while the Tigers held the assists advantage, 13-7. The Bears produced more steals, 6-5.
