No. 13 Tigers Sharp Shooting Leads to Big Win over Simmons

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 13 Georgetown College men's basketball team (10-3) got back in the win column 95-52 against Simmons College (3-8) in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Thursday evening.  

HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgetown could not miss to start the game, as collectively the first five shots fell. Darien Lewis and Bubba Leavell lead the offense in the early stages as two 3-pointers from Lewis forced Simmons to call a  timeout at the 17:09 mark. Four of the first five shots made were all from downtown as Georgetown took a lightning-quick 16-0 lead. After five and a half minutes, the Falcons found the bottom of the net as it was 21-3 Georgetown at the first media timeout. Simmons' second field goal came over 10 minutes into the game as it was 27-5 at the second media timeout of the half. In total, nine of the 11 Tigers who played in the first half scored as Georgetown commanded a 50-23 lead at the break. It was the third time this season the Tigers have scored at least 50 points in the half. 

Georgetown missed four of its first five shots in the second, but the offense continued to find its rhythm as it sank 18 shots in the final 20 minutes. By the second media timeout of the half, the Tigers had built a 59-34 lead and did not look back from there. Owen Shee and Braxton Ward both saw minutes in the half for Georgetown, who cruised to the 95-52 win.

THE TEAM 
Georgetown shot 55.6% from the field. The Tigers were 11-26 (42.3%) from deep and shot 14-19 (73.7%) at the free-throw line. GC won the rebounding battle 52-36, while the Tigers also held the assists advantage, 17-6. The Tigers produced more steals, 9-6.

THE PLAYERS
Bubba Leavell was one of three to score 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from range.
Isaiah Mason also added 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Darien Lewis tallied 12 points with seven assists and five rebounds.

The Tigers have next week off before hosting Wright State-Lake (2-9) on Monday. December 15.
