No. 8 Patriots Rally Past No. 18 Tigers

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The No. 18 Georgetown College men's basketball team (15-5, 2-2 MSC) took an 81-76 loss on the road to No. 8 University of the Cumberlands (17-3, 2-2 MSC) in the O. Wayne Rollins Center on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Cumberland's offense was clicking from the jump in this one as the hosts scored on six of its first eight trips down the floor. The advantage stood at 15-6 just over three minutes in, forcing head coach Chris Briggs to call a timeout. Over the next five minutes, the Tigers slowly began chipping away at the deficit, making it a one-possession game again after Aden Nyekan completed the three-point play at the 11:31 mark. Georgetown had turned things around with 7:26 left in the half as the Tigers had produced a four-point advantage behind a 12-0 run. The Patriots scored the next seven points to regain control. The final five minutes of the half belonged to the Tigers, though, as they sank four foul shots and a big 3-pointer from Isaiah Mason boosted Georgetown to a 40-39 halftime lead.

The Patriots opened the second half on a sharp 8-0 run and did not back down the rest of the way. After Isaiah Mason got the first basket of the half for Georgetown, the Tigers trimmed the deficit to one after a Nyekan layup with 14:42 to play. Cumberlands responded with consecutive 3-pointers to take a 58-53 lead. Georgetown made it a one-point game with just over nine minutes to go when Zion Harmon's 3-pointer rattled home. Isaiah Mason's layups on back-to-back possessions gave the Tigers a 66-65 lead with 7:31 to play. Down the stretch, though, it was the Patriots who prevailed, scoring the game's final nine points after Georgetown led 76-72 with just under three minutes to play.

Georgetown shot 43.3% from the field. The Tigers were 5-18 (27.8%) from deep and shot 19-26 (73.1%) at the free-throw line. GC won the rebounding battle 40-36, while the Patriots held the assists advantage, 16-13. Cumberlands doubled up Georgetown 8-4 in steals.
