No. 18 Tigers Knock off No. 6 Patriots
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 18 Georgetown College men's basketball team (19-6, 5-4 MSC) defeated No. 6 Cumberlands (19-6, 4-5 MSC) 73-61 in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first five points of the game for Georgetown belonged to Isaiah Mason, who scored 14 of his team-high 21 in the first half. The Tigers had built a 10-4 lead at the opening media timeout. Georgetown first took its largest lead of the first half of 12 after Bubba Leavell's layup at the 3:09 mark. Leavell and Mason both connected for 3-pointers in the closing stages to help the Tigers to a 37-25 lead at the break.
Out of the locker room, Cumberlands sank consecutive 3-pointers to cut things to a 37-31 game. Georgetown countered with five points of its own as it held a 44-33 lead at the first media break. Over the next several minutes, despite Cumberlands' offense shifting into a more dynamic look, Georgetown maintained a 50-43 lead with 9:57 to play. Georgetown had every answer for what Cumberlands threw at it over the remaining 10 minutes, as despite just a four-point game at the 4:23 mark, the Tigers held on for the 73-61 win.

Georgetown shot 46.9% from the field. The Tigers were 9-19 (47.4%) from deep and shot 18-27 (66.7%) at the free-throw line. GC won the rebounding battle 38-36, while the Tigers also led in assists, 18-10. UC produced eight steals to GC's five.
THE PLAYERS
* Isaiah Mason scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
* Julius Edmonds added 11 points with six rebounds and two steals.
* Aden Nyekan helped out with 10 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
