No. 15 Tigers' Second Half Fuels Win over Phoenix

LEBANON, Tenn. – The No. 15 Georgetown College men's basketball team (20-6, 6-4 MSC) picked up another road win, 88-72 over Cumberland (10-15, 2-8 MSC) in Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening three minutes of play by far belonged to the Tigers as Georgetown shot out to a quick 14-1 lead. A 7-0 Phoenix run stifled things before Darien Lewis's jumper pushed it back to an eight-point game. Out of the under 15 minute timeout, the Tigers used a 6-0 run to stretch things to 22-8 before once again the Phoenix stormed back. This time it took the hosts the better part of five minutes to cut it to a 27-24 game with 8:41 to play in the half. The half of runs continued on as the Tigers once again opened a comfortable 36-28 lead that Cumberland chopped away at over the final five minutes. After a Phoenix 3-pointer pushed Cumberland ahead, Darien Lewis sank a pair of foul shots to tie things at 44-44 heading into the locker room.

The second half started, and all but ended, with Isaiah Mason. The senior had 19 of his 21 points in the final 20 minutes of play, shooting 6-of-9 from the field. Georgetown never trailed in the second half, much in part to Mason having the answer. Cumberland's last effort was thwarted with just under six minutes to play. Despite cutting it to an eight-point game, Georgetown found the bottom of the net consistently to fend off the Phoenix for the 88-72 road victory.

THE TEAM
Georgetown shot 47.5% from the field. The Tigers were 11-32 (34.4%) from deep and shot 19-23 (82.6%) at the free-throw line. GC won the rebounding battle 40-36, while the Tigers also led in assists, 14-10. CU produced 13 steals to GC's eight.
