Men's Soccer Announces Leadership Change

Brent Chase has announced his resignation as Georgetown Men’s Soccer Head Coach to pursue another opportunity. Assistant Coach John Manga has been named Interim Head Coach for the 2024 season.

Chase departs Georgetown after six seasons and 53 wins at the helm. “I would like to thank Brent Chase for his hard work in leading our program over the past six seasons,” said Chris Oliver, Georgetown College Vice President for Athletics.  “He has been a valuable member of our campus community, and we wish him the best with his next endeavors.”

John Manga takes over a program looking to get back in the Mid-South Conference title race. Manga came to Georgetown as an assistant in 2021 after a decorated playing career. Born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Manga came to the United States as a youth and settled in Lexington, KY. He was a standout at Henry Clay High School, winning a state title in 2010 and being named Mr. Kentucky Soccer and All-American in 2011.

His talents took him to the University of Cincinnati where was a 2-time 1st Team All-Conference player and 2016 unanimous Offensive Player of the Year. He was drafted by the Colorado Rapids in the 2016 Major League Soccer Draft and played for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL in 2017.

After retiring due to injuries, Manga coached at Seacoast United from 2017 until coming to Georgetown in 2021. He spoke on the new opportunity as Interim Head Coach. “I am extremely honored and humbled to lead Georgetown Men’s Soccer. Thank you to Dr. Allen, Mr. Oliver, and the entire department for entrusting me with this great opportunity. I am looking forward to getting this upcoming season under way. Go Tigers!”

Vice President for Athletics, Chris Oliver, is also eager to see Manga lead the Tigers on the pitch.

“John Manga is a natural fit to lead our program at this time,” said Chris Oliver. “I am excited to see him earn this opportunity. Coach Manga’s energy and enthusiasm are evident to anyone who has spent time around him. He has a strong connection with our current student-athletes, and he’s eager to help our program take the next steps.”

The next step for Georgetown Men’s Soccer is the kickoff to the 2024 season on Wednesday, August 21st, at Talladega. Kickoff for that match is set for 5:00pm. The Tigers’ home opener comes on Friday, August 30th, at 7:00pm against Indiana East.
