4 Goals Lead Tigers and Jones to First Victory of Season

Georgetown College's men's soccer team secured a decisive 4-1 victory against Montreat (NC) at Toyota Stadium on Friday afternoon. The Tigers showcased offensive prowess and defensive resilience, as they outshot Montreat 24-7 and capitalized on key moments to clinch the win. The decision marks the first win for Louis Jones as the head coach of the Tigers.

The first half saw Georgetown assert control early, maintaining possession and generating multiple scoring opportunities. Despite Montreat's defensive efforts, Georgetown broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when Carson Thomas scored an unassisted goal, giving the home team a 1-0 lead at halftime. Montreat struggled to create chances, managing only four shots, three of which were saved by Georgetown's goalkeeper Simon Heine. Georgetown's five shots on goal and four corner kicks set the stage for an even more commanding second half.

The second half began with Georgetown intensifying their pressure and their persistence paid off in the 56th minute when Asukulu Chantike scored, assisted by Charlie Hogg, to make it 2-0. Montreat responded five minutes later with a goal from Predrag Grbovic, assisted by Ethan Grasso, narrowing the gap to 2-1 and briefly reigniting hope for the visitors. However, Georgetown's attack quickly extinguished Montreat's comeback aspirations, as Camilo Ramirez Lopez scored in the 74th minute, assisted by Inchun Han, to restore the two-goal cushion.

Georgetown sealed the game in the 82nd minute with a goal from Reid Schulten, finalizing the score at 4-1. Their dominance was further highlighted by 13 shots in the second half, compared to Montreat's three, and a strong defensive performance that limited Montreat to just six shots on goal throughout the match. Georgetown's goalkeepers, Simon Heine and Arthur Rudolphi, split duties, combining for five saves, while Montreat's Adrian Torres made eight saves but could not prevent the four goals.

The Tigers return to Toyota Stadium next Saturday, September 6th at 3:00 pm in a non-conference matchup vs. Shawnee State (OH).
