Wilson Pendleton throws PR, secures another All-American nod

Wilson Pendleton secured his place as one of the best field athletes in school history on Friday at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The senior fired a personal record in the shot put with a best distance of 17.43 meters (57 feet, 2.25 inches) to finish in 5th place and clinch another All-American honor.

Pendleton was the final thrower in the 2nd of 3 flights. His first throw traveled 16.63 meters, placing him in 2nd after the first round of attempts. Throw 2 was the clincher and the new PR of 17.43 meters and was enough to top 2nd place by 0.19 meters and advance out of the flight and into the 3-throw final, consisting of the top-8 throwers from all flights.

In the final round, Pendleton committed a foul on his first attempt. Throws 2 and 3 fell short of his PR, but all throws were tabulated to determine the final rankings. Pendleton finished 5th overall, just .01 meters (0.25 inches) from 4th and 0.12 meters (4.75 inches) from a podium finish.
