No. 2 Cougars Sweep Past No. 15 Tigers
CHICAGO – The No. 15 Georgetown College men's volleyball team (2-5) fell to No. 2 St. Xavier (7-2) in the Shannon Center on Friday night.
The Cougars defeated the Tigers in three sets, 25-16, 25-17, 25-13.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgetown started out poorly, falling into a 7-0 hole, which proved a difficult task to overcome. After burning one timeout, the Tigers strung together consecutive points just twice in the opener. The first was a 3-0 run to pull within eight. Late in the set came the other when a 4-0 run made things 23-16. The damage had been done as the Cougars claimed the first, 25-16.
Five of the first six points went to St. Xavier in the second, setting the tone for the rest of the evening. Georgetown pulled within two points on three different occasions but ultimately ended up falling, 25-17 in the second.
The Tigers took their first lead of the night off a service error, then a Michal Bak kill to start the third. The lead was quickly dismantled, though, as the hosts rattled off a 7-1 run to open an 8-3 lead. Georgetown cut it to an 8-6 game, but the offensive force of the Cougars took over and in the end ran away with the third, 25-13.
