Three Tigers Crowned Champion, Eight Placers at First-Ever MSC Championships
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The No. 19 Georgetown College men's wrestling team competed in the program's first-ever Mid-South Conference Championship on Friday in the Ephram White Gymnasium, where it picked up eight placers and three champions.
Georgetown's three champions were the second-most in the championships, behind only Campbellsville, which produced four.
After falling in the opener to No. 22 Chase Walker, Wyatt Payne rallied to knock off Midway's Zachary Lewis to claim third place in 125. No. 17 Leland Reeves had a quick exit in 133 due to an injury, while Cofy Walls strung together an impressive day in 149.
Walls lost his opener to Kiowa Vines from LWU before collecting consecutive wins to put himself in contention for the fifth-place match. Walls won the fifth-place match via a major decision. The middle classes provided only a couple of wins against quality opponents before Keenan Shively picked up another placement. Shively lost in the fifth-place match to No. 21 Anthony Pyron to finish sixth in 174.
Doug Dittmer was the seventh-place finisher in 184, going 2-2 on the day before the Tigers dominated in the rest of the upper classes.
No. 8 Navarro Nanpuya, No. 11 Marcus James, and No. 20 Luke Cox went a combined 8-0 to win their respective weight classes and finish the afternoon strong for Georgetown.
Nanpuya knocked off both the No. 9 and No. 7 wrestlers in his path to the crown while James beat the No. 14-ranked wrestler in 197 for his title. Cox won the heavyweights with a huge 7-6 decision over No. 7 Austin Silva.
