Saints march past Tigers
The Tigers fought as well as they could but the shots just didn't fall on this night in Crestview Hills. Thomas More (20-0, 14-0) hit three consecutive 3s in the opening quarter, to take an 11-2 lead, and forcing Georgetown (12-8, 8-6) to call a timeout. Jalynn Landversicht converted a 3-point play out of the timeout to get the Tigers back within 11-5, but GC would never get as close the rest of the night. Thomas More went on an 11-0 run to make the score 22-5 before Georgetown could get another bucket. The lead would grow to 27-7 late in the quarter before Tiger free throws made the score 27-10, TMU at the end of 1. Thomas More knocked down 5 threes in the 1st quarter, whereas Georgetown made just 3 field goals total.
The 2nd quarter would prove no better for the Tigers offense as they again could only muster 3 made buckets in the quarter to finish the half 6-19 from the floor and 21 total points. The Tigers trailed 42-21 at the break, despite holding TMU to 41% shooting. Turnovers would also play a major role in the half as TMU had a 16-1 advantage in points off turnovers in the half. Georgetown's offense did find some life in the 3rd, but so did the Saints, as TMU shot 60% in the 3rd quarter to swell its lead to 28 heading to the 4th. Georgetown would shoot 7-12 in the 4th but it was too late as the Saints defense was too much from the start.
AJ Stevenson would lead the Tigers in scoring with 9, followed by 7 from Izzy Lamparty and Jordan Rogers.
The Tigers return home on Saturday to take on Wilberforce with a 1:00pm tip at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
