Tigers Knock out Falcons Early in Big Win
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The (RV) Georgetown College women's basketball team (2-0) cruised to a 114-57 win over Simmons College (0-1) in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers nearly led wire-to-wire in this one as they connected for five of their 15 3-pointers in the first quarter. After the Falcons' long shot at the 4:18 mark, the Tigers' offense took control. Georgetown went on a 14-2 run, highlighted by Addesa Miller pouring in three of her six shots from deep, helping Georgetown to a 31-14 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Georgetown extended its run into the second quarter, scoring the first four points of the period. Daisy Gale scored nine of her game-high 24 points in the second as the Tigers opened up as much as a 32-point lead at the break, leading 60-28.
In the third, Georgetown scored a game-high 33 points collectively. The offense missed just five shots all period for an efficient 70% from the field, the best in the game. Gale added nine more points while Miller sank two more treys, helping the Tigers to a 93-49 advantage after three complete.
Haley Dillman opened the fourth quarter scoring with a made 3-pointer as the pace of play and offense slowed for both sides. Dillman finished the fourth with eight points after converting five foul shots as six different Tigers scored in the final frame. Georgetown cruised to the 114-57 victory.
THE TEAM
Georgetown shot 55.4% from the field. The Tigers were 15-32 (46.9%) from deep and shot an efficient 17-21 (81.0%) at the free-throw line. GC won the rebound battle, 47-27. The Tigers led in assists, 26-12, and two blocks. GC had 10 steals to SC's six.
THE PLAYERS
* Daisy Gale finished with a team-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field with five rebounds and five assists.
* Addesa Miller added 20 points and six rebounds off the bench with three steals.
* Kayra Freeman scored 18 points and had three rebounds and two assists.
UP NEXT
The Tigers welcome Miami-Hamilton (0-0) to Davis-Reid Alumni Gym next Friday, October 31, to continue their eight-game homestand to begin the season.
