Tigers Roll over Oakland City
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The (RV) Georgetown College women's basketball team (5-0) took down Oakland City University (0-3) 97-41 in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgetown got on the board early with a Daysha Reid 3-pointer and did not surrender the lead the rest of the game. The Tigers made their first three field goals and commanded a 7-2 lead just two minutes into the game. The Mighty Oaks needed the better part of five minutes to make their second basket as Georgetown took a 27-12 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Georgetown's first three made baskets were from range as they stretched their lead to 36-16 by the midway point. In the closing minutes of the half, the Tigers ballooned their lead to 49-22 behind five quick points from Anna Long.
Three-point shooting was once again the key to the third quarter as Daisy Gale connected from range to being the frame before Daysha Reid hit from downtown as well in the early stages. Georgetown had opened a 40-point lead by the five-minute mark of the third and led 79-26 after three quarters.
The scoring slowed in the fourth for Georgetown as collectively it put up 18 points. Daisy Gale poured in seven of her game-high 21 in the frame as the Tigers missed the century-mark for the first time this season, winning 97-41.
THE TEAM
Georgetown shot 45.3% from the field. The Tigers were 14-34 (41.2%) from deep and shot an impressive 25-27 (92.6%) at the free-throw line. GC won the rebound battle, 51-29. The Tigers led in assists, 15-4 and had three blocks. GC had 7 steals to OCU's one.
THE PLAYERS
* Daisy Gale finished with a game-high 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field with seven rebounds and three assists.
* Daysha Reid added 15 points and completed the double-double with 11 rebounds.
* Anna Long produced 13 points off the bench including 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.
