Tigers Cruise to Win over Ohio Christian
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The (RV) Georgetown College women's basketball team (6-0) beat Ohio Christian University (0-3) 100-61 in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Daysha Reid splashed in a 3-pointer for the Tigers to get the offense started in what was a closely contested first quarter. Georgetown faced some toughness and physicality from the Trailblazers and played from behind for much of the opening 10 minutes of play. Eszter Dioszegi collected 10 of her team-high 18 points in the first quarter as Georgetown used an 8-0 to take a 27-23 lead heading into the second.
The Tigers' run to end the first continued into the second as they scored the first four points of the frame. Georgetown's pressure and continued pace wore on the Trailblazers as the hosts turned six OCU turnovers into six points in the quarter. The Tigers commanded a 15-point lead at the break, 53-38.
Out of the locker room, the Tigers really increased the pace of play and pressure applied to the Trailblazers. In the end, the fitness of Georgetown wore on the Ohio Christian as the Tigers outscored the visitors by 12 in the quarter. Kayra Freeman scored 10 of her 16 points in the third, helping the Tigers to an 82-55 lead at the end of three quarters.
As has been the norm this season, the offense slowed for both sides in the fourth. Georgetown got seven points from Daysha Reid in the frame and cruised their way to their fifth 100-point game of the season, winning 100-61.
THE TEAM
Georgetown shot 46.5% from the field. The Tigers were 7-25 (28.0%) from deep and shot an impressive 13-17 (76.5%) at the free-throw line. GC won the rebound battle, 55-38. The Tigers led in assists, 25-10, and had six blocks. GC had 17 steals to OCU's seven.
THE PLAYERS
* Eszter Dioszegi finished with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field with 11 rebounds.
* Jordan Day added 11 points and completed the double-double with 11 rebounds off the bench.
* Kayra Freeman produced 16 points and collected five steals and five assists.
