Tigers' Strong Third Quarter Seals it Over IU Southeast
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The (RV) Georgetown College women's basketball team (10-0) ran away in the third quarter, winning 97-60 over IU Southeast (2-4) in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Things started well for the Tigers, who quickly saw a 10-0 lead through the first nearly four minutes. The Grenadiers got on the board with a pair of free throws at the 6:14 mark. Kayra Freeman poured in eight of her 19 points in the first quarter as Georgetown took a 23-15 lead into the second quarter.
Things got dicey in the second. After Freeman sank a 3-pointer to open the scoring, the Grenadiers went on an 8-0 run to cut it to a 26-24 game. With just 40 seconds remaining in the half, IU Southeast had pushed ahead, 32-31, leaving the Tigers to figure things out. Anna Long made a pair of foul shots to give the Tigers the lead at the break.
Out of the locker room, the Tigers responded with a 34-point frame to take a commanding 67-43 lead into the fourth. Anna Long collected nine of her team-high 23 points in the period as the Tigers shot better than 45% to right the ship and stay in the win column.
Georgetown's pace of play and depth were too much for IU Southeast in the fourth as the Tigers went on to put up another 30-point quarter. In the end, Georgetown finished off the game, winning 97-60.
THE TEAM
Georgetown shot 41.0% from the field. The Tigers were 8-29 (27.6%) from deep and shot 21-24 (87.5%) at the free-throw line. GC won the rebound battle, 55-41. The Grenadiers led in assists, 12-8, while both teams had three blocks. GC had 15 steals to IUSE's seven.
