No. 4 Campbellsville Holds Off (RV) Tigers' Late Push
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The (RV) Georgetown College women's basketball team (17-7, 2-6 MSC) lost 78-67 to No. 4 Campbellsville University (19-4, 4-3 MSC) in the Powell Athletic Center on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Campbellsville came out hot, making four of its first five shots to grab an early 9-1 lead. From there, Georgetown settled in, relying on Daisy Gale to facilitate the offense. Gale had 10 points in the first and had helped the Tigers cut it to a 19-12 game by the end of the period.
The second period belonged to Anna Long, who scored 12 of her 14 points in the frame. Despite connecting on three 3-pointers, Long had guided the Tigers to a 39-31 halftime deficit.
The third quarter was the only quarter in which the Tigers won on the night, outscoring Campbellsville by three. Additionally, five different Tigers found the bottom of the net in the 10 minutes as Gale sank a 3-pointer to start the scoring. After her 3-pointer and Long's layup later in the period cut it to a five-point game, Campbellsville seemed to have every answer. Taylee Woodbury drilled a 3-pointer on the final possession of the quarter to make it just a 53-48 game and keep Georgetown in range.
Woodbury hit another critical 3-pointer in the opening minute of the fourth to make it just a one-possession game, but ultimately Campbellsville prevailed 78-67 by continuing to hit its own shots.
THE TEAM
Georgetown shot 43.4% from the field. The Tigers were 11-28 (39.3%) from deep and were 10-15 (66.7%) at the free-throw line. GC outrebounded CU, 32-27. Campbellsville led in assists, 16, while CU also had more steals, 16-9.
