No. 10 Ave Maria Hand (RV) Tigers Loss

AVE MARIA, Fla. – The Georgetown College women's lacrosse team (0-1) opened its 2026 season with a 20-1 loss to No. 10 Ave Maria (1-0) at Gyrene Field on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Tigers won the opening draw control, a turnover led to the Gyrene's first goal of the evening. Ave Maria led 2-0 after the next draw control and doubled its lead to 4-0 just under four minutes into the game. Ave Maria took a 7-0 lead into the second period.

Georgetown's lone goal of the game started the second period as Hailey Voss scored for the Tigers. Less than a minute later, though, the Gyrenes got the goal back. In total, Ave Maria netted five second-period goals to take a 12-l lead at halftime.

The Gyrenes scored three goals in the third, two of which came in the opening minutes of the second half. The final strike came at the 3:21 mark to make it 15-1 after three periods.

Ave Maria tallied five fourth-period goals spread throughout the final 15 minutes of play, with the final goal of the night coming with just 28 seconds remaining.
 
THE TEAM
Georgetown was outshot 35 to 2, and the Gyrenes held a 14-9 advantage in draw controls. The Tigers collected 14 ground balls and made 10 saves. The Tigers were 6-of-8 on clear attempts.

THE PLAYER
* Hailey Voss scored the lone Tiger goal and registered both Georgetown shots. She won five draw controls and also had two ground balls.

UP NEXT
The Tigers close out their weekend trip in Florida with a meeting against (RV) St. Thomas (0-1) on Sunday, February 15.

First draw is set for 11:00 a.m. against the Bobcats in AutoNation Field.
