(RV) Knights Finish off (RV) Tigers in Home Opener

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The (RV) Georgetown College women's lacrosse team (0-3) dropped its home opener 18-5 to (RV) Marian (1-0) at Toyota Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgetown got on the board first as Hailey Voss struck at the 12:43 mark. The Knights, who bagged five opening quarter goals, responded a little under two minutes later and scored the next five goals in the game. Just before the end of the first quarter, though, this time Hannah Voss smashed home a goal to make it a 5-2 game. She was assisted by Hailey Voss.

Marian opened the scoring to start the second period before Vanessa Owens put a shot on goal, which went in at the 8:50 mark. Her strike was assisted by Hailey Voss, her second of the night. The middle portions of the second were largely marked by turnovers before Marian added a goal with 2:40 to play. Hailey Voss erased that score at the 2:16 mark by scoring her second goal of the evening, making it an 8-4 game. The Knights tallied one more goal to command a 9-4 lead at the break.

The Knights ran away with things in the second half as they collected nine goals to the Tigers' one. In the third, Hailey Voss completed her hat-trick at the 5:13 mark of the quarter to make it a 12-5 game. Marian tallied one more and led 13-5 heading into the final frame.

Marian added four goals in the fourth to stretch its lead to 18-5, tallying its final strike with 4:00 to play in the game.

THE TEAM
Georgetown was outshot 33 to 11, while the Tigers held a 14-11 advantage in draw controls. The Knights collected 30 ground balls and made four saves, while the Tigers had 18 and 11, respectively. The Tigers were 4-of-7 on clear attempts.

THE PLAYER
Hailey Voss recorded a hat-trick, netting goals in each of the first three quarters. She also had two assists and two groundballs.

UP NEXT
The Tigers host No. 10 Lawrence Tech (0-1) on Saturday, February 28.

First draw is set for 3:00 p.m. against the Blue Devils in Toyota Stadium.
