(RV) Tigers Open AAC Tournament with Win over Montreat
WALEKSA, Ga. – The No. 4-seeded Georgetown College women's lacrosse team (5-11, 3-3 AAC) opened the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament with a 23-6 dismantling of No. 5 seed Montreat College (4-9, 1-5 AAC) at Ken White Field on Thursday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
An eventful opening couple of minutes found the Tigers and Cavaliers tied at a goal apiece. Hailey Voss paced Georgetown with half of the eight goals in the first quarter alone. Voss broke the 1-1 tie and gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead with just under nine minutes to play in the quarter. Despite the Cavaliers making it a 3-2 game, the final four strikes of the first belonged to Georgetown, who also received goals from Lyric Sidney and Avery McAlister in the final stages of the quarter.
The Tigers scored a game-low four goals in the second as Montreat capitalized on two of the first three goals in the second. The final five minutes featured a pair of Madison Diaz goals sandwiched between a Vanessa Owens, who helped the Tigers to an 11-4 lead at the half.
Georgetown tallied six goals in both the third and fourth quarters as it held a 17-5 advantage through three periods.
Voss and Diaz both notched braces in the fourth quarter alone as the Tigers pushed on for a 23-6 victory.

Georgetown had 42 shots while MC had 16. The Tigers held a 21-8 advantage in draw controls. The Tigers collected 14 ground balls and made 8 saves.
