MIDWAY, Ky. – The Georgetown College women's soccer team (5-5-1, 0-2 MSC) picked up a win in its final non-conference game of the season, 3-1, over Midway University (3-3-1, 1-1 RSC) at Midway Turf Field on Wednesday night.
THE MATCH
The Tigers got off on the front foot with an early goal. In the third minute, Georgetown struck first when Sophie Paul buried the first shot of the game into the back of the net. Paul was serviced a ball from Bekah Clark right on the penalty spot which Paul sent into the bottom left corner. Over 30 minutes later, after a free kick from the Midway goalie was fielded and controlled by the Tigers near midfield, Bekah Clark found the ball on her foot, took four dribbles and then shot the ball which deflected off the goalies into the bottom left corner for the second goal of the night. Georgetown took a 3-0 lead into halftime after Clark bagged a brace. She was played a through ball from Kendyl Rumple and put it past the Midway keeper with a fantastic finish into the bottom right corner. The Tigers had five shots at the half while the Eagles did not register a single shot.
The second half saw the Tigers settle into a game of possession as they controlled the ball from the whistle. The Eagles managed just three shots in the second half and were not kept scoreless, despite quality defending. In the 88th minute, the hosts erased the Tigers' clean sheet with a penalty kick goal.
