Two Goals in Two Minutes Lifts Tigers Past Lions

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College women's soccer team (6-5-1, 1-2 MSC) picked up its first Mid-South Conference win of the season, 2-1, over Freed-Hardeman University (0-11-1, 0-3 MSC) at Toyota Stadium on Friday afternoon.

THE MATCH
Georgetown applied some early pressure to the Lions as the hosts managed a pair of shots and five corner kicks all the match's opening 10 minutes. Despite limiting the possession and passes of FHU, the Lions found the back of the net first. In the 42nd minute, Ellie Wood connected for her fourth goal of the year. The Tigers held an 8-2 advantage in shots at the break, but were still looking for a goal.

Playing from behind, the Tigers regrouped at halftime and planned their attack. It took 15 minutes but Georgetown took its first opportunity at net in the 60th minute when Sophie Paul headed a ball towards the goal. The Tigers went on to take five more shots before the tide changed in the 82nd minute. Sophie Paul scored her fifth goal of the season. After winning the ball in the box, Paul put a boot on the ball as she was falling down backwards for the equalizer. The goal sparked the Tigers offensively as it erased the deficit and put the momentum back on their side. The next shot for the Tigers was the game-winning goal. Not even two minutes later, Briony Morgan struck off a free kick to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead in the 84th minute. Morgan took the free kick from the 23-yard line on the football field and buried it into the top left corner for the goal. The Tigers went on to win, 2-1.

UP NEXT
The Tigers take on Campbellsville University (6-6, 2-1 MSC) next Tuesday, October 7, at 6:00 p.m. on the road.
