WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Georgetown College women's soccer team (6-9-1, 1-5 MSC) season came to an end with a 6-0 loss in the Mid-South Conference Quarterfinals to #10 University of the Cumberlands (12-3-3, 4-2 MSC) at the UC Soccer Complex on Wednesday night.
THE MATCH
The Patriots wasted little time getting in the scorebook to start the postseason as the second shot attempt found the back of the net. Nicole Araujo scored her ninth goal of the season in the 9th minute, which became the game-winning strike. Just five minutes later, Cumberlands doubled its advantage when Lucia Domingo Porcel connected on a shot for her first goal of the year. The Tigers' first and only shot of the match came off the boot of Mallary Bailey in the 23rd minute, but it was saved. The Patriots got their third goal of the night in the 28th minute when Karla Waibel struck. Ines Martin made it 4-0 Patriots in the 37th minute to close the scoring in the opening 45 minutes.
The second half brought more shots from the Patriots and very little opportunity for the Tigers. In the 70th minute, the Patriots found the back of the net again as Tori Robertson scored her sixth goal of the year off a pass from Noah Paalman. The scoring finished up in the 87th minute when Martin earned a brace off a pass from Carola Fontan.
