Tigers Downed in Five Sets by Eagles
MIDWAY, Ky. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (1-6) lost to Midway University (1-5) in Marshall Gymnasium on Thursday night.
The Eagles defeated the Tigers in five sets, winning, 13-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a pair of service errors opened the match, a pair of service aces gave the Tigers the early edge, 5-2. The Eagles responded with five straight points before Georgetown grabbed hold of the opener with an 11-1 spurt fueled by two kills apiece from Constanca Rosas and Abie Butterworth. Georgetown took the first set, 25-13.
Midway bounced back with the second set win behind a strong close. With the set tied at 20-20, the hosts second the 25-21 win behind a pair of costly attack errors by the Tigers and some clutch service aces.
Georgetown found itself in an early hole in the third before kills from Maria Alves helped level the scoring. After falling into a 12-8 deficit, the Tigers rallied for a 9-1 run to push out to a 17-13 lead. The Eagles pulled to within one, at 20-19 but Georgetown held on for the 25-21 win.
The fourth set followed suit, at least on the scoreboard. Midway took it 25-21 despite a late Tiger surge to it to three. The Eagles collected a kill to force the decisive fifth set.
Despite dropping the first three points of the fifth, the Tigers led by as many as two on two different occasions. Midway rallied in the end, collecting four of the final five points to win the set and match, 15-13.

Georgetown hit .183 as a squad, with MU earning a .152 mark. The Tigers had 54 kills and 49 assists. Georgetown produced 10 blocks and 12 service aces with 41 digs.

* Mallori Dunn-Martin produced a team-high 17 kills with four service aces and hitting .378%.
* Maria Alves also touched double figures in kills with 13 to go with two assists and a block.
* Faith Miller played all five sets and collected 16 assists and four service aces.

The Tigers conclude the week with a game on Saturday against the University of Rio Grande (7-6).
