Tigers Swept by Red Storm
RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The Georgetown College volleyball team (1-7) lost to the University of Rio Grande (8-6) in Newt Oliver Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Storm defeated the Tigers in three sets, winning, 25-18, 25-9, 25-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After jumping out to an early 6-3 advantage, the Tigers saw a 7-1 run dissipate their lead. From there, Georgetown only strung together consecutive points just once as Rio Grande held their momentum. The Red Storm took the opener, 25-18.
The Tigers secured the opening point of the second but some costly attacking errors saw them fall into the early hole. The Red Storm grabbed control of the second behind a key 9-0 run to lead 13-5 from which it never looked back. Rio Grande won the second, 25-9.
The Tigers and Red Storm traded points early in the third before another costly run by the hosts sunk Georgetown. This time it was a 14-0 stretch that allowed Rio Grande to go on and take the set and match, 25-12.
THE TEAM
Georgetown hit -.050 as a squad, with U of R earning a .299 mark. The Tigers had 17 kills and 16 assists. Georgetown produced eight blocks and three service aces with 40 digs.
THE PLAYERS
* Mallori Dunn-Martin produced a team-high five kills with a service ace and hitting .176%.
* Giara Ferrari added four kills to go with two digs and three blocks.
* Abby Walker and Reagan Miller both collected a team-high 10 digs.
UP NEXT
The Tigers head to St. Louis next weekend for the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy hosted Eutectics Classic beginning on Friday, September 12.
Georgetown faces off against Friends University (6-2) on Friday at 2:00 p.m. before taking on Evangel University (9-2, 1-0 KCAC) at 4:00 p.m. All matches will be played inside UHSP Gymnasium.
