Tigers Downed in Straight Sets by IU Southeast
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (2-9, 0-1 MSC) closed a three-match week with a loss to Indiana Southeast (10-1, 3-0 RSC) in the IU Southeast Activities Building on Saturday afternoon.
The Grenadiers defeated the Tigers in three sets, winning 25-18, 25-19, 25-21.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After playing to a 6-6 tie to start things off, the Grenadiers separated with 6-0 run. From there, the Tigers did not get back any closer than five points as a pair of kills from Ella Brooks ended the opener, 25-18 in favor of IU Southeast.
The Grenadiers surged out to a quick 4-1 lead, which was cut down by the 8-8 mark. The Tigers managed their first lead of the day at 9-8 and held on at 11-10 before things changed. An 8-0 run mid-way through the second put the Tigers in a 19-11 deficit and tips things for the Grenadiers. Despite a late rally by Georgetown, IU Southeast hung on for the 25-19 set two win.
Playing with a two-set lead, IU Southeast found early momentum in the third. With it tied at 10-10 both sides traded three-point runs before the Grenadiers opened an 18-13 lead which was never lost. The Grenadiers won the set and match, 25-21.
THE TEAM
Georgetown hit -.051 as a squad, with IUSE earning a .173 mark. The Tigers had 16 kills and 16 assists. Georgetown produced four blocks and eight service aces with 49 digs.
THE PLAYERS
* Giara Ferrari produced a team-high six kills with two digs and a service ace.
* Mallori Dunn-Martin added three kills to go with eight digs and two block solos.
* Faith Miller just missed another double-double with nine assists and eight digs.
UP NEXT
After 11 games off-campus, the Tigers return home for the first time this season when they take on Campbellsville (10-10 0-1 MSC) on Tuesday, September 23.
