(RV) Cumberland Take Out Tigers
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (3-19, 0-10 MSC) fell to (RV) Cumberland University (24-11, 6-4 MSC) in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Tuesday night.
The Phoenix defeated the Tigers in three sets, winning 25-19, 25-23, 25-13.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In what early on seemed to be a competitive match, the Phoenix gained early momentum leading 5-4. They went on a 6-1 run and established control of the opener. Despite the Tigers going on a 6-0 run of their own late, making it a 20-17 game, Cumberland took the first set, 25-19.
The second set saw the Tigers lead for a good portion of the early goings. Tied at 4-4, the hosts' 4-1 run gave them an 8-5 advantage. The Phoenix slowly chipped away, though, forcing another tie again at 14-14. Four straight points for the visitors made things 19-15 and forced a Georgetown timeout. The Tigers made things interesting down the stretch, fending off two set points, but could not outlast the Phoenix, who won 25-23.
The third set saw the Phoenix grab early control, winning four of the first five points. After the Tigers tied things up at 5-5 behind a service ace, Cumberland won the next six points and put thing out of reach. The Tigers pulled back within three points at 16-13, but the final nine points of the match went to the Phoenix who won, 25-13.
THE TEAM
Georgetown hit .068 as a squad, with CU earning a .282 mark. The Tigers had 25 kills and 25 assists. Georgetown collected five service aces and 45 digs.
THE PLAYERS
* Giara Ferrari produced a team-high seven kills with a service ace and a block assist.
* Mallori Dunn-Martin added five kills with 10 digs and two service aces.
* Faith Miller had one kill to go with 11 assists and six digs.

The Tigers close the week at home, hosting Alice Lloyd College (20-8) on Thursday, October 30.
