Tigers Drop Five Setter to Eagles

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (3-20, 0-10 MSC) lost to Alice Lloyd College (21-8) in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on Thursday night.

The Eagles defeated the Tigers in five sets, winning 25-19, 21-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-13.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In one of the most competitive matches all season, the Tigers stormed out of the gates, winning five of the first seven points. Leading 7-4 is when the Tigers' defense seemed to hit a roadblock. The Eagles rattled off seven straight points and did not look back from there. Georgetown battled all the way back to make it a 19-18 game, but ended up falling 25-19 in the opener.

Set two saw the Tigers fall into an early deficit. Trailing 8-4 in the early stages, Georgetown fought back to tie things at 10-10 before taking its first lead of the game on the next point. From there, the Tigers maintained a roughly five-point advantage, holding on for the 25-21 set win.

The third set was back-and-forth for much of the game. The Eagles opened up as much as a five-point lead at the 16-11 mark before Georgetown trimmed the game to 20-18. Five of the final seven points of the set went to Alice Lloyd, though as the visitors went up two sets to one, winning 25-20.

In the fourth, the Tigers lead wire-to-wire, jumping out to an early 6-1 lead. Despite the Eagles pushing back to make things 7-6, the Tigers capitalized on the next two points. Out of an Alice Lloyd timeout, the Tigers took the next five points to put the set out of reach, 20-12. Georgetown went on to win the fourth, 25-16.

The fifth set went to Alice Lloyd after another back-and-forth set. Tied 6-6, the Eagles led 9-6 and forced a Georgetown timeout. The Tigers fought back to make it a 12-11 game, but could not get over the hump. After tying the game at 13-13, a kill and an attack error tilted things for the Eagles to win 15-13.

Georgetown hit .196 as a squad, with ALC earning a .150 mark. The Tigers had 57 kills and 55 assists. Georgetown collected 10 service aces and 63 digs.
