Tigers Season Ends with MSC Quarterfinal Loss to the Blue Raiders
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Georgetown College volleyball team's (4-23, 0-12 MSC) season came to an end with a Mid-South Conference Quarterfinal loss to No. 2 Lindsey Wilson University (29-9, 9-3 MSC) in Studle Financial Arena on Thursday afternoon.
The Blue Raiders defeated the Tigers in three sets, winning 25-19, 25-23, 26-24.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The only lead (4-3) of the opening set for the Tigers came when Giara Ferrari smashed one of her seven kills. Lindsey Wilson turned a one-point lead at 9-8 into a six-point advantage with a 6-0 run to force Georgetown to call one of its timeouts. The Tigers pulled back within three at 17-14, but another Blue Raider spurt puts things out of reach. Five straight points went for LWU, who led 22-15 and took the opener, 25-19.
The only lead the Tigers saw in the second set was off the opening point. Playing from behind for much of the early stages, a kill from Mallori Dunn-Martin midway through made it an 11-9 game. Another Dunn-Martin brought Georgetown within a point at 15-14, but the Blue Raiders had the answer. Despite a late surge from the Tigers to tie things at 23-23, the final two points of the set were claimed by LWU for the 25-23 win.
Georgetown jumped out to a 6-4 lead in the third and stretched its advantage to as many as four at the 13-9 mark off a Constanca Rosas kill. Despite the set being tied at 18-18, the Tigers pulled out five of the following eight points to take a 23-21 lead. From there, though, the Blue Raiders rallied from behind to take a 24-23 lead. A service error tied things at 24-24 before a kill and an attack error ended things in favor of LWU, 26-24.
