Tigers Finish Sixth with Four Placers at First-Ever Mid-South Conference Championships
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The (RV) Georgetown College women's wrestling team competed in the program's first-ever Mid-South Conference Championship on Friday in the Ephram White Gymnasium, where it picked up four placers and finished sixth as a squad.
In the 117-weight class, Shelby Clayton placed fifth with a 2-2 record. After picking up an opening round fall, Clayton was forced to battle it out with the No. 2 wrestler in her class. After taking a tech fall to her, Clayton ended the night winning the fifth-place match via decision.
Jes'Onia Barefield was the top Tiger finisher, placing fourth in the 124-class. Barefield automatically moves onto the NAIA National Championships behind her 3-2 record. She picked up consecutive wins to start the bracket, including one over No. 15 Daniela Espinal of Montreat. From there, she fell to No. 2 Rose Kaplan of Indiana Tech before battling back to the third-place match where she lost via pin.
Anna March, Brilynn Gemmer and Nicole Arroyo all struggled in their brackets before A'Niyah Sullivan stepped up in the 180-class. Sullivan went 3-2 on the day with a fourth-place finish. Sullivan rattled off three straight wins after dropping her opening round match. She lost to the No. 3 rated wrestler in her class via a fall.
Finally, Jasmin Beckham took sixth place in the 207 class behind a 3-3 record. Beckham split her opening four matches before ultimately slotting into the fifth-place match where she lost via fall.
