No. 11 Tigers Fall to No. 7 Blue Raiders to Open Mid-South Play

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 11 Georgetown College football team (3-2, 0-1 MSC) opened Mid-South Conference play with a 37-13 loss to No. 7 Lindsey Wilson University (5-0, 1-0 MSC) at Toyota Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • Gehrig Slunaker completed 17 of his 29 passes for 168 yards.
  • Georgetown ran for 226 yards on the ground, led by 140 yards from Guy Bailey.
  • Daniel Kamara scored the only touchdown of the day for Georgetown, a 45-yard run.
  • The Georgetown defense held Lindsey Wilson to 455 total yards on 66 plays, led by a game-high 11 tackles from John Carter Myers

SCORING SUMMARY
First Quarter:

  • Both sides ended their first drives in a punt before the Blue Raiders got the scoring started with a 10-play drive that spun just under six minutes. A 23-yard pass to Khia Sherrard set up LWU for an eventual 1-yard rushing touchdown.
  • The Tigers' next drive was highlighted by a 43-yard Guy Bailey carry and an 11-yard Clayton Davis catch before a passing interference flag set up a 32-yard field goal attempt for Nate Craft, which was converted.

Second Quarter:

  • The Blue Raiders scored on the opening play of the second quarter, a 9-yard rush, making it a 14-3 game.
  • Georgetown took over and had the answer. After a few short gains set up three first downs, Daniel Kamara took the ball 45 yards for a rushing score, cutting it to a 14-10 game.
  • LWU scored on its next possession as well when Sherrard hauled in his second TD catch of the day, this time a 38-yard reception.
  • The Tigers' next drive ended in disaster. After gaining 24 yards via the ground and air, Slunaker's pass was intercepted and taken back 35 yards.
  • Both sides punted on their next possessions before the Blue Raiders scored just before halftime.
  • LWU converted a 31-yard field goal to put the visitors up 24-10 at the break.

Third Quarter:

  • Much like the start of the game, both teams punted on their first drive of the third quarter.
  • Georgetown's longest play of the day happened on the next drive.
  • Clayton Davis snatched a 55-yard pass from Slunaker, which set up a Nate Craft field goal attempt, which went wide right.
  • Lindsey Wilson's next possession saw the Blue Raiders go for three straight rushes and score on a 58-yard attempt.
  • The two-point conversion attempt failed as LWU led, 30-10. 

Fourth Quarter:

  • After converting a 4th and 12 near midfield, the Tigers' next drive concluded in a 35-yard field goal.
  • Lindsey Wilson took over and took the game clock with them. A 17-play drive spun nearly 11 minutes and ended in a 1-yard rushing touchdown for a 37-13 lead.
  • Georgetown's last drive ended in a fumble after moving the ball 47 yards down to the 4-yard line.

The Tigers hit the road for the first time in Mid-South play when they take on Faulkner (3-2, 0-1 MSC) next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The Eagles are coming off a 30-7 home loss to Bethel University this week and have lost the last five games to the Tigers dating back to the 2016 season.
