No. 19 Tigers Hang on For Road Win at Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 19 Georgetown College football team (4-2, 1-1 MSC) picked up its first Mid-South Conference win with a 37-35 victory over Faulkner University (3-3, 0-2 MSC) at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

• Gehrig Slunaker completed 19 of his 27 passes for 263 yards.
• Georgetown ran for 99 yards on the ground, led by 70 yards from Guy Bailey.
• Chandler Godby just missed 100 yards receiving (96) and hauled in two touchdowns.
• Brian Tawuo and Matthew Hinz also snagged a touchdown while Bailey punched in another score on the ground.
• The Georgetown defense held Faulkner to 462 total yards on 58 plays, led by a game-high seven tackles from Darion Neal.

SCORING SUMMARY
First Quarter:

• The Tigers kicked off to start the game and forced the Eagles to a quick two-yard 3-and-out.
• Georgetown took over on the 29-yard line and started the scoring from there.
• After four positive yardage plays and one incomplete play, Guy Bailey used back-to-back rushes for the first touchdown of the day. 

Second Quarter:

• Georgetown scored first in the second quarter after their eight-play drive resulted in a Matthew Hinz 10-yard receiving touchdown.
• Both sides' defenses held up the rest of the first half as the Tigers took a 14-0 lead into the locker room.

Third Quarter:

• Receiving the ball to start the half ended well for the Tigers.
• Jamarcus Robinson returned the kickoff 53 yards to set the visitors up in a good position.
• Three plays later, the Tigers were in the end zone.
• Chandler Godby hauled in a 32-yard touchdown pass from Slunaker to give the Tigers a 21-0 lead.
• After another Eagles 3-and-out, the Tigers opened up a 27-0 lead.
• This time, Brian Tawuo pulled in a 12-yard catch from Slunaker, but the PAT was blocked.
• Over 40 minutes into the game, the Eagles' offense finally clicked.
• An 80-yard touchdown pass from the hosts got them on the board.
• Slunaker fumbled on the Tigers' next drive, which let the Eagles back into the game.
• Another quick score made it 27-14 halfway through the frame.
• A successful onside kick gave Faulkner the ball back, and they scored once more.
• This time, a 29-yard connection pulled the Eagles within a single score at 27-21.
• Georgetown scored its final touchdown of the day on the next drive.
• Slunaker found Godby for his second touchdown of the day, this time a 13-yard grab. 

Fourth Quarter:

• Faulkner started the fourth quarter off with a touchdown, making it 34-28 with 14:34 to play.
• A nearly six-minute drive from the Tigers resulted in a field goal, a 34-yard boot, making it 37-28.
• The Tigers' defense stopped a 12-play Eagles drive with a clutch 46-yard blocked field goal to keep the nine-point advantage.
• The Tigers fumbled on the next possession, which set up the final score of the day, a 44-yard passing touchdown for Faulkner, making it a 37-35 game.
• The second onside kick attempt of the day failed as the Tigers hung on for their first conference win of the season.

The Tigers return to host Cumberland (4-2, 0-0 MSC) next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. for Homecoming.
