MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Georgetown College men's soccer team (2-10-1, 0-6 MSC) season came to an end with an overtime loss 2-1 to #14 Bethel University (10-1-2, 4-1-1 MSC) at Walter Butler Stadium on Wednesday night.
THE MATCH
Things took a while to get started in this match as a pair of corner kicks and one shot from Bethel highlighted the first 15 minutes. The match shifted in the 16th minute, though, as Austin Pickerell broke through with the first goal of the night, which was also his first of the season. Pickerell buried the ball in the back of the net off a pass from Xavier Hale to secure the lead. Only three more shots were taken the rest of the half, all by Bethel, as the Tigers took the advantage into the locker room.
Down a goal, the Wildcats' offense shifted to a much more attack-friendly offense in the second half. Bethel rattled off 10 shots before finding the equalizer in the 80th minute. Ishmael Fuseini found the back of the net to level the match. The Tigers managed just one shot all second half as the game trickled into its first overtime period.
The first overtime period quickly saw the golden goal as the Wildcats scored just 1:42 into the period. Souleymane Balde picked up the game-winning goal off a pass from Horace Avila, who assisted on both goals of the match for Bethel.
