Mitchell, Oliver earn All-Region honors

It was a slow start for Georgetown College softball. Understandably so as 12 games at the start of the season were canceled due to weather. However, the Tigers found their stride late and made an epic run through the Mid-South Conference tournament. GC won four games in just more than two days to advance to the finals and clinch an automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Rounds.

Helping the team start to click were a pair of sophomores – Lindsey Mitchell and Carly Oliver. The tandem received more postseason accolades recently when the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the all-regional teams. Both earned second team honors for Region V.

Mitchell played and started 45 games, hitting .389 with nine doubles, eight home runs and 41 RBI. Oliver was right behind her with a .388 batting average with 13 doubles, nine home runs, four triples and 42 RBI from her lead-off position. The shortstop scored 48 runs and stole 21 bases.

Both players are eligible for the NFCA's All-America honors to be announced later in the summer.
