Tigers Drop Alabama Games, Start MSC Play Friday

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Georgetown College softball team (5-7) started spring break with four games in Alabama on Saturday and Sunday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

On Saturday, Georgetown fell 9-0 in five innings to the United States Sports Academy in the opener and then finished off the night with a 3-2 loss to Morningside.

On Sunday, the Tigers lost to Central Methodist 3-2, and then finished off the weekend with a 9-0 loss to William Woods.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
A pitcher's duel set the stage through the first three innings before the Eagles broke through in the fourth. Georgetown got a hit, but it was USSA's base knock that counted as a sacrifice fly, bringing in the game's first run. The game ended in the bottom of the fifth after the Eagles scored eight runs. The Tigers' first run-ruled game ended on the wrong side of things after three singles, a double, and a walk pushed it to a 9-0 game.

Ainsley Herron went 1-2 with a walk.
Kinley Lucas was 0-1 with a walk.
Michalee Clay went 0-1 with a walk.
Kylie Miller (2-2) took the loss, going 4.2 innings, allowing nine runs while striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
Morningside scored two runs in the second inning off a double to left field after leaving a pair of baserunners stranded in the first. Georgetown tied things up in the fifth behind a Kinley Lucas RBI single to right and a Kylie Miller sacrifice fly to right field. Each side recorded a hit in the sixth, but it was Morningside who broke through with the game-winning run in the seventh, an RBI single to win, 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME THREE
Georgetown got a hit in each of the first five innings but did not score until the fourth. Central Methodist led 1-0 after an RBI single to left in the third before an error by the pitcher tied the game. The Tigers poked ahead in the fifth behind a Kady Dennis groundout, but the game was decided in the home half of the fifth when Central Methodist hit a two-run single to center to push ahead 3-2.

The Owls added three more runs in the third off an error, a wild pitch, and a single to second base. Despite seeing the ball well enough, the Tigers couldn't manage a run. Another wild pitch scored an Owl in the sixth, and the game was finished in the seventh with four more William Woods runs.
