Tigers Take Opener off Campbellsville

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Georgetown College softball team (8-10, 3-3 MSC) hosted Campbellsville University (13-12, 2-4 MSC) for its first home Mid-South Conference series on Friday and Saturday at the Tiger Softball Complex.

On Friday, the Tigers took down Campbellsville 2-1 in a game that featured just five combined hits.

On Saturday, Campbellsville won the first game 4-2, before Campbellsville closed the series with a 7-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE      
Through the first three innings, just one hit per team was registered as both pitchers settled in. The first mistake of the day was made by starting pitcher Kylie Miller in the fourth when a one-out pitch was sent over the center field wall for the visiting Tigers' lone run of the day. Georgetown went down in order in the next three frames before rallying in the bottom of the seventh. Ainsley Herron led the inning off with a double to left center before Kady Dennis drove her in with a single. Kinley Lucas then walked and, after a sacrifice bunt, moved runners up to second and third. Addi Watson pinch hit. On a 1-2 count, Watson put the ball into play when a catcher's inference call allowed the Tigers to walk it off, 2-1.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE      
Michalee Clay went 1-3.
Ainsley Herron was 1-3 with a run scored.
Kady Dennis went 1-2 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.
Kylie Miller (6-3) picked up the win, throwing a complete game while striking out three off just two hits and one earned run.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO     
Campbellsville capitalized on a key moment in the second inning to pull ahead in this one. With runners on second and third, a wild pitch plated the first run of the day before a throwing error by the catcher made it 2-0. Campbellsville doubled its lead in the fourth behind a bases-clearing double, making it 4-0. Georgetown rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth when Delaney Vaughn connected for a single to right field, but the Tigers were shut down in the seventh, falling, 4-2.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO      
Kylie Miller was 3-3.
* Kady Dennis went 1-2 with a run scored and a walk.
Delaney Vaughn was 2-3 with two RBIs.
Addi Watson (2-5) took the loss, tossing 5.0 innings, striking out two, while allowing three earned runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME THREE     
In game three, Campbellsville plated two in the second inning again. This time, a pair of singles brought in runs. The visitors once again doubled their lead in the fourth behind an error and a passed ball. Doubles in both the fifth and sixth finished the scoring for Campbellsville, who went on to take the game and series, 7-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME THREE      
Lilli Koch was 2-4.
Kinley Lucas went 1-3.
Michalee Clay was 1-3.
Elle Prewitt (0-2) took the loss, tossing 3.2 innings while striking out one, allowing two runs and three hits.

The Tigers host Kentucky State University (2-12, 2-8 SIAC) on Tuesday, March 24.
