Tigers Split with the Eagles

MIDWAY, Ky. – The Georgetown College softball team (14-17, 6-9 MSC) split with Midway University (10-28, 8-20 RSC) on Tuesday afternoon at William G. Clark Memorial Field.

The Tigers took down the Eagles 5-3 in the opener before Midway claimed game two, 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE      
Both sides scored a run in the first as Addi Watson connected for an RBI single to center field for the Tigers. Midway used a double to right center to tie it up in the home half. Another RBI double in the third gave the Eagles the lead before Kylie Miller tied the game in the fourth. Miller singled to left-center field. Lilli Koch hit a sacrifice fly out to left, which gave the Tigers back the lead for good. In the sixth, Miller hit a one-out triple down the right field line to score Kaytlyn Spickard before Ainsley Herron doubled to left center to score the fifth run of the game. Two doubles in the seventh closed the scoring for the Eagles as Georgetown held on for the 5-3 win in the opener.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE      
Kylie Miller went 3-4 with two RBIs.
Ainsley Herron was 1-4 with an RBI.
Addi Watson went 3-3 with an RBI and a walk.
Kylie Miller (10-6) picked up the win, striking out nine going the distance, allowing three runs and three walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO     
Kylie Miller led the second game off with a single, and she was brought in when Corinne Garmon hit a sacrifice fly to center. A two-out home run to left center field tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Midway poked ahead with another two-out base knock. This time, a single through the right side gave the hosts a one-run lead, which it held the rest of the way. From there, Georgetown managed just two more hits, falling 2-1.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO      
Kylie Miller was 2-4 with a run scored.
Addi Watson was 1-3 with a stolen base.
Kaytlyn Spickard was 1-2.
Addi Watson (2-7) took the loss, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing two runs off five hits.

UP NEXT   
The Tigers continue with another non-conference series at home on Sunday, April 19, when Pikeville (22-12, 12-10 AAC) visits.

First pitch with the Bears is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Tiger Softball Complex.
