Tigers Drop Exhibition Game to Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The (RV) Georgetown College women's basketball team (8-0) lost an exhibition game to NCAA Div. I, the University of Cincinnati (1-3) 100-61 in Fifth Third Arena on Sunday afternoon.   

HOW IT HAPPENED
After surrendering the opening bucket to the Bearcats, Kayra Freeman nailed consecutive 3-pointers to get the Tigers a quick 6-2 lead. In fact, Freeman scored the first eight points for Georgetown who led 8-2 just three minutes into the game. Daisy Gale broke the scoring drought for the Tigers, who went scoreless over the next two minutes. Freeman hit another basket at the 4:38 mark and Georgetown took a 12-10 lead into the media timeout. Daysha Reid made a 3-pointer with 3:51 to play, but Georgetown did not score again in the quarter, trailing just 17-15 after the first 10 minutes. 

Cincinnati started the second quarter on a 13-0 run and greatly turned up its defensive pressure. In all, the Tigers scored a season-low 11 points in the second quarter on four made baskets. Gale broke the scoring drought with a basket four minutes into the quarter as the Bearcats went on to command a 44-26 lead at halftime. 

Out of the locker room, Gale's sharp shooting improved as the sophomore poured in 12 points in the quarter to lead the Tigers. Collectively, Georgetown scored 20 points in the frame and trailed 71-46 heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, it was Freeman who led the Tigers with six points, but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Tigers fell in the exhibition game 100-61. 

THE TEAM 
Georgetown shot 34.3% from the field. The Tigers were 9-28 (31.1%) from deep and shot 6-11 (54.5%) at the free-throw line. UC won the rebound battle, 53-31. The Bearcats led in assists, 25-13, and had nine blocks. UC had seven steals to GC's five.

THE PLAYERS

Daisy Gale finished with a game-high 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the field.

Kayra Freeman also touched double figures with 16 points and three rebounds.

Jackie Onunwor produced nine points with four assists.

The Tigers jump back into action on Thursday, November 20, when they host IU Columbus (1-5).
