Phoenix Sweep Tigers

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Georgetown College volleyball team (2-11, 0-3 MSC) fell on the road to Cumberland University (19-10, 3-0 MSC) in Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena on Friday night.

The Phoenix defeated the Tigers in three sets, winning 25-11, 25-15, 25-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix opened the match strong with a pair kills in the early going. After two attack errors let the Tigers tie it at 2-2, the hosts separated with a 7-0 run to command a 10-2 grip on the opener. The Tigers could not claw their way back any further and surrendered another 5-0 run to face a 19-6 hole. Cumberland took the final four points to win, 25-11.

Cumberland took five of the first six points in the second and did not look back from there. Despite some costly attacking errors allowing the Tigers to cut it to an 8-6 game, the hosts prevailed behind an extended 8-1 run to make it 18-8. The Tigers made it respectable from there but still fell, 25-15.

The Tigers took an early 3-1 lead in the third, and last led at 5-4 before Cumberland took over for good. The Phoenix won the third set, 25-15.

THE TEAM
Georgetown hit -0.051 as a squad, with CU earning a .315 mark. The Tigers had 18 kills and 17 assists. Georgetown produced six block assists and five service aces with 35 digs. 

THE PLAYERS
Giara Ferrari was one of four Tigers with three kills while also putting two service aces and three digs.

Ava Hughes added three kills to go with four digs and a team-best .250 hitting percentage.

Faith Miller collected eight assists, seven digs, and a service ace.

The Tigers begin a six-game homestand on Tuesday, September 30, against #14 Cumberlands (16-0, 2-0 MSC) at 7:00 p.m.
